2012年のニューヨークアートエキスポ出展作品「祈り」は、多くのニューヨーカ達の称賛を得て高く評価されました。
そして、2018年には、現代手工芸作家協会主催の東京都美術館で開催される「ニュークリエイティブ展」の名誉会員となり、益々意欲的に制作活動を行っている与左右衛門の作品は、見る者を魅了し、愛される作品です。
“Prayer,” presented at the New York Art Expo in 2012, garnered widespread acclaim and was highly regarded by audiences in New York.
In 2018, Yosouemon was granted honorary membership in the “New Creative Exhibition,” held at the Tokyo Metropolitan Art Museum under the auspices of the Contemporary Handicraft Artists Association.
He continues to pursue his artistic practice with increasing depth and dedication. His works possess a quiet power that captivates viewers and leaves a lasting impression.

与左右衛門が生み出す人形たちは、
どこか中性的で、憂いを湛えた美しき神話の住人たちです。
透き通る胡粉の艶やかな肌、
切れ長で愛らしい眼差しにほのかな微笑みを宿す女性像「桜姫」。
本金や銀箔、岩絵の具によって描かれた桜の屏風を背景に、
春の気配を抱きながら静かに佇みます。
また近年では、猫と金魚が融合した「きんねこ」シリーズが高い評価を受け、
全国の主要百貨店にて取り扱われるなど、
その独創的な世界観は多くの人々を魅了し、支持を広げています。

The figures created by Yosouemon are ethereal, androgynous beings—
as if inhabitants of a mythic realm, imbued with a quiet sense of melancholy and beauty.
With luminous skin rendered in refined gofun,
and elongated, gentle eyes carrying a subtle smile,
his iconic female figure, Sakura-hime, embodies a delicate and timeless presence.
Set against folding screens adorned with cherry blossoms—
meticulously executed using gold leaf, silver leaf, and traditional mineral pigments—
she stands in stillness, quietly embracing the essence of spring.
In recent years, his “Kinneko” series—
a unique fusion of cat and goldfish—has received widespread acclaim.
These works have been featured in leading department stores across Japan,
further expanding his audience and deepening appreciation for his distinctive artistic vision.

今回は二曲一双屏風と二体の人形の組み合わせです。
#蝶 をモチーフにした青い屏風と人形、#牡丹 の花をモチーフにした赤い屏風と人形。
作品題名は｢ #夢か現か ｣ですが、どちらが #夢 で、どちらが #現 という設定はしておりません。
あるいは、どちらとも……ご覧下さる皆様の自由なご想像にお任せいたします。｣

A Dialogue Across Time: Buson (与謝蕪村) and Yosouemon(与左右衛門)
Yosa Buson, one of the great masters of Edo-period haikai,
was also a painter of remarkable sensitivity.
His haiku, often described as “paintings in words,”
possess a vivid and poetic imagery that transcends time.
In this work, Buson’s literary world resonates with that of Yosouemon—
a doll artist and painter—
creating a quiet dialogue that unfolds beyond the boundaries of era and space.
The figures created by Yosouemon evoke a serene, almost bodhisattva-like presence.
With elongated, delicate fingertips and softly composed expressions,
they embody a quiet grace.
Their luminous whiteness, imbued with femininity and compassion,
holds within it a subtle sense of sensuality.
Inspired by his deep affection for cats,
Yosouemon conceived the “Kinneko”—
a fantastical being born from the fusion of a goldfish and a cat.
Floating gently through the universe,
the Kinneko carries with it a sense of wonder and quiet happiness.
